German performer and costume designer Timo Lewandovsky, better known as Tima die Göttliche (Tima the Divine) was BOTD in 1965. Born in Munich, he moved to West Berlin in 1983, completing an internship in the costume department of the Theater des Westens. He became involved in the gay rights group Homosexuellen Aktion Westberlin, becoming involved in HIV/AIDS activism. He also founded the drag ensemble Ladies Neid, performing in nightclubs and staging politically-charged drag shows. He is best known for his work with filmmaker Rosa von Praunheim, who cast him as trans activist Charlotte van Mahlsdorf in the 1991 docudrama Ich bin meiene eigene Frau (I Am My Own Wife). He and von Praunheim later collaborated on the 1995 autobiographical feature film Neurosia – 50 Jahre pervers. In 1999, Göttliche starred as trans pioneer Dora Richter in von Praunheim’s film Der Einstein des Sex, a biopic of sexologist Magnus Hirschfeld, leading to a regular role in German TV series Berlin Bohème (Bohemian Berlin). He found a wider international audience as the star of von Praunheim’s 2002 film Tunten lügen nicht (Queens Don’t Lie). Göttliche also writes, directs and stars in his own plays and cabaret shows, has written fiction and poetry and curated fashion shows and art exhibitions focusing on historical costumes. He continues to live in Berlin; his relationship status is unknown.
