American writer Peter Cameron was BOTD in 1959. Born in Pompton Plains, New Jersey, he studied at Hamilton College in New York, publishing his first short story in The New Yorker magazine in 1983. His debut short story collection One Way or Another was published in 1986, followed by a novel, Leap Year, in 1990. His 1994 novel The Weekend was filmed by Brian Skeet in 2000, followed by 2002’s The City of Your Final Destination, filmed in 2007 by James Ivory. His first young-adult novel Someday This Pain Will Be Useful to You, published in 2007, and was filmed in 2012. His most recent novel, What Happens at Night, was published in 2020. He currently teaches creative writing at Bennington College in Vermont. Openly gay since forever, his current relationship status is unknown.
