English journalist and writer Juliet Jacques was BOTD in 1981. She grew up in Surrey, studying history, literature and film at university. In 2011, she published a series of blog posts for the Guardian newspaper, chronicling her gender transition and experience of gender reassignment treatment, which she expanded in the 2015 memoir Trans. She also wrote a regular column for the New Statesman between 2011 and 2015, covering a broad range of topics including trans-exclusionary feminism, football and contemporary art and film criticism, collected in the 2022 anthology Front Lines. After completing a doctorate in creative writing at the University of Sussex, she published a short story collection, Variations, in 2021, followed by the 2023 novella Monaco. She has also made three short films, and appeared as herself in the 2018 drama film Female Human Animal. Jacques lives in London; her current relationship status is unknown.
