English singer-songwriter Mick Jagger was BOTD in 1943. Born in London to a middle-class family, he was a talented student, enrolling at the London School of Economics, before leaving to form rock band The Rolling Stones. World stardom followed, with a series of mega-hits co-written with band member Keith Richards, most notably (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction. With his whippet-hipped, androgynous looks, bee-stung lips and hedonistic persona, Jagger personified the wild countercultural spirit of 1960s Swinging London. He also had a brief, fascinating career in film, starring in 70s cult classics Performance and Ned Kelly. His seven year marriage to Bianca Pérez-Mora Macías, conducted largely at New York nightclub Studio 54, made them tabloid fodder, and he had high profile relationships with singer Marianne Faithfull and models Jerry Hall and L’Wren Scott. His friendship with fellow rock icon David Bowie has been the subject of endless speculation: Bowie’s ex-wife Angela, backing singer Ava Cherry and professional groupie Bebe Buell have each reported that Jagger and Bowie were lovers during the 1960s. They reunited in 1985 for a successful cover duet of Motown classic Dancin’ in the Street, with a music video displaying their teasing sexual chemistry. Jagger continues to perform and tour, and has inspired generations of rock and pop acts, few of whom can match his charisma and go-for-broke energy. Among his eight annoyingly attractive children are the model-actress-designers Jade, Lizzie and Georgia May Jagger.
