English actress Erin Doherty was BOTD in 1992. Born in Crawley in south-east London, she showed an early interest in drama, and was also a talented footballer, captaining the Crawley Wasps female football team by her teens. She studied drama at the Guildford School of Acting in 2011, later training at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. She made her screen debut in TV drama series Call the Midwife, and starred in a 2017 London revival of the biographical play My Name is Rachel Corrie. She is best known for playing the young Princess Anne in the third and fourth seasons of TV drama series The Crown, impressing viewers with her strangulated Royal accent, deadpan line readings and alpha-female beehive. Her other work includes the TV dramas Chloe, Firebrand and Reawakening, and a well-reviewed 2022 London revival of Arthur Miller’s play The Crucible. She won further praise and an Emmy Award for her role as a child psychologist in the 2025 drama series Adolescence. Openly lesbian since forever, Doherty was in a seven-year relationship with actress Sophie Melville, her co-star in the 2019 play Wolfie. Doherty lives in London, and is in a relationship with Sinéad Donnelly.
