American drag performer and comedian Bianca del Rio was BOTD in 1975. Born Roy Haylock in New Orleans, Louisiana to a family of Cuban and Honduran descent, he developed an early interest in theatre. After finishing high school, he lived briefly in New York City, returning to Louisiana to pursue a career in costume design. He debuted his drag persona Bianca Del Rio in 1996, and became a favourite in drag clubs and musical revues in New Orleans. After Hurricane Katrina in 2005, he returned to New York, appearing in cabaret and stand-up comedy shows alongside The Lady Bunny. In 2014, Del Rio was a contestant in the sixth season of reality TV competition Ru Paul‘s Drag Race. An audience favourite, she won the contest, admired for her quick wit and proudly Hispanic heritage. The win made her an international celebrity, leading to a series of successful stand-up comedy tours, imaginatively titled The Rolodex of Hate, Not Today Satan, Blame it On Bianca Del Rio, It’s Jester Joke, Unsanitised and Dead Inside. Known for cheerfully roasting her audiences, she has developed a devoted fanbase of Hawaiian-shirted middle-aged gay men. In 2019, she played drag queen Loco Chanelle in the London production of musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, reprising the role for the 2021 film. She also made a cameo in season 4 of queer-themed British TV drama Bad Education. In 2025, she will appear in off-Broadway production of Molière‘s comedy Tartuffe, alongside Matthew Broderick. Del Rio lives in Palm Springs. Her relationship status is unknown.
