Zachary Quinto

American actor Zachary Quinto was BOTD in 1977. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, his father died when he was seven, and he was raised by his mother. He began acting in high school, and attended Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Drama. He made his professional debut in the short-lived 2000 TV series The Others, appearing in bit parts in other TV series including Alan Ball‘s Six Feet Under. His breakthrough came in 2003 with a recurring role in TV spy thriller series 24, and he rose to wider attention as Dr Spock in the 2007 film reboot of Star Trek. He came out as gay in 2011, amid industry fears that the news would ruin his Hollywood career. His announcement was received positively, and he appeared in two further Star Trek sequels. His other film work includes the gay-themed drama I Am Michael co-starring James Franco and portraying journalist Glenn Greenwald in the biopic Snowden. He earned an Emmy nomination for his role in Ryan Murphy‘s anthology TV series American Horror Story: Asylum. His theatre work includes Off-Broadway productions of Tennessee WilliamsThe Glass Menagerie and Tony Kushner‘s AIDS-themed play Angels in America. He made his Broadway debut in Joe Mantello‘s 2018 revival of Mart Crowley‘s seminal gay play The Boys in the Band, reprising his role for a 2020 TV film adaptation. In 2022, he played Gore Vidal in a West End transfer of the play Best of Enemies, focusing on Vidal’s 1968 TV debate with conservative commentator William F. Buckley Jr. in which Buckley called Vidal a “queer”. He and Murphy reunited for the 2022 TV series American Horror Story: NYC, playing a character based on gay art curator Sam Wagstaff. In 2024, he starred in and co-produced the TV series Brilliant Minds. Quinto has been in relationships with actors Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Jonathan Groff and musician Miles McMillan. His current relationship status is unknown.
