American performer and artist Paul Soileau, best known for his drag alter ego Christeene Vale, was BOTD in 1976. Born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, he attended Loyola University in New Orleans. After graduation, he worked in New York City, where he developed his first drag persona Rebecca Havemeyer, a relentlessly cheerful blonde housewife, bingo hostess and amateur cabaret performer, with the signature song Your Son Will Come Out Tomorrow. He also had a cameo as a drag performer in Steven Soderbergh’s 1998 film Out of Sight. He relocated to Austin, Texas in 2005, following the devastation of New Orleans in by Hurricane Katrina, and began performing at queer open-mic night Camp Camp. He is best known for his creation Christeene Vale, a genderqueer “drag terrorist” and punk rock singer, who Soileau described as a “switchblade” to exorcise his anger and challenge heteronormative culture. Typically appearing in torn-up clothing, matted black hair and smeared makeup, Christeene became infamous for X-rated live performances including raunchy dance routines, on-stage urination and butt plugs launched through the audience in balloons. Soileau has released three albums as Christeene, with singles including Fix My Dick, Tears from My Pussy, FUK V29 and Butt Muscle and music videos directed by PJ Raval. Soileau continues to perform and tour as Christeene, and has collaborated with fashion designer Rick Owens, singers Peaches, John Grant, Justin Vivian Bond, Marc Almond and Jimmy Somerville, photographers Juergen Teller and Wolfgang Tillmans and filmmaker Bruce LaBruce. His relationship status is unknown.
