English politician, activist and former policeman Brian Paddick, Baron Paddick of Brixton, was BOTD in 1958. Born and raised in London, he joined the Metropolitan Police in 1976, eventually becoming Deputy Assistant Commissioner in 2003. After a public disagreement with Commissioner Ian Blair over the police murder of Jean Charles de Menezes, Paddick was demoted and eventually left the force in 2007. He stood twice (unsuccessfully) for the London Mayoralty before being made Baron Paddick and joining the House of Lords in 2013. Paddick left his five-year marriage in 1998 to live openly as a gay man. British tabloids had a field day in 2008 when the very buff Paddick took a naked jungle shower in reality TV show I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here. Paddick was in a long term relationship with Petter Belsvik, marrying in Norway in 2009, remaining together until Belsvik’s death in 2023. His current relationship status is unknown.
