American actor Jim J. Bullock was BOTD in 1955. Born in Casper, Wyoming, and raised in Texas, he grew up in an evangelical Baptist family, and planned to become a preacher before discovering men and show business. He had a recurring role in 1980s sitcoms Too Close for Comfort and Alf, and appeared frequently on game show Hollywood Squares. In one of the weirdest pairings in showbiz history, he co-starred with evangelical Christian preacher Tammy Faye Messner in the short-lived 1996 talk show, The Jim J. and Tammy Faye Show. In 2000, he was the voice of Queer Duck in the animated cable TV series, and also provided voice work for the stop-motion satire Rick & Steve: The Happiest Gay Couple in All the World. On stage, he appeared in the Broadway review of the musical Hairspray. His scattergun film career includes the Mel Brooks comedy Spaceballs and lesbian rom-com Kissing Jessica Stein. He most recently appeared in the 2022 Hollywood Bowl revival of drag musical Kinky Boots. Bullock was married to John Casey, until Casey’s death from an AIDS-related illness in 1996. He revealed his own HIV diagnosis in the same year, after living with HIV for a decade.
