American film producer Megan Ellison was BOTD in 1986. Born in Santa Clara County, California, the daughter of tech billionaire Larry Ellison, she attended film school at the University of Southern California. In the mid-2000s, she began to finance independent films, scoring her first major success as executive producer to the Coen Brothers’ 2010 film True Grit. The following year, she established production company Annapurna Pictures, going on to produce some of the most acclaimed American independent films of the 2010s. Ellison earned Oscar nominations for producing Best Picture nominees Zero Dark Thirty, Her, American Hustle and Phantom Thread, and won a Tony Award in 2002 as a producer of the queer-themed musical A Strange Loop. She has been a prominent critic of Hollywood producers Harvey Weinstein and Scott Rudin, whom she has accused of misogynist and abusive behaviour. Ellison is in a relationship with marketing executive Robyn Shapiro.
